The NATO bombing of Serbia and Kosovo in 1999 had been expected to last no more than a few days. Serbian defiance on NATO firepower proved much greater than expected. As the months passed, international criticism of the bombing began to mount.
Radio Television Serbia had long been in a thorn in NATO’s side, presenting a robust critique of NATO’s illegal bombardment. The attack on RTS’s headquarters building, which killed 16 civilians, was indefensible under international law.
