A general consensus emerged quickly in western media that the Serbs were to blame for the conflicts that destroyed Yugoslavia. But there were journalists and academics who challenged this.
In 1994, Charles Maynes, editor of the US publication ‘Foreign Policy’, organised a debate between those who believed that Yugoslavia had been a triumph for the media and those who felt that it had been a dark hour for journalism.
The debate was broadcast by CSPAN via the internet – one of the very early webcasts. Please click below to see the introduction and the keynote presentations.
