In December 1997, the Canadian magazine ‘Saturday Night’ printed a long article on Gojko Suzak. Mr Suzak had built up a small pizza empire in Canada and became an enthusiastic backer of Franco Tudjman in his campaign to win the leadership of Croatia and take it out of Yugoslavia. Suzak went on to become Tudjman’s Defence Minister. Among other things, the article relates how Suzak and a couple of friends fired a missile into Serbian territory in Croatia – possibly the first act of serious violence in the Croatian war.
