By the kind permission of the organising committee, we have been authorised to publish in full the winning entries from the second edition of the Giuseppe Torre Award, sponsored by the Italian National Coordination for Yugoslavia, which took place in 2021. Because of the effects of the Covid pandemic, the results of the competition were not formally announced until 2023.
The competition was won by the commentator and academic George Szamuely with his superb essay, “Securing Desired Outcomes: The Political Mission of the ICTY”.
Second prize was shared by the essay “A Critical Look at the ICTY – The Tribunal’s Origin and Behaviour” written by the renowned American journalist and researcher Andy Wilcoxson,
and the essay “Truth and Justice – the American Way. How the ICTY distorted History and Perverted Justice”, written by broadcaster and journalist Laurie Mayer on behalf of the the Balkan Conflicts Research collective.
This collection also includes the highly-commended essay, “The Hague Tribunal (ICTY): The Ultimate Propaganda and Foreign Policy Tool”, by Jovan Milojevich, Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Oklahoma State University.
We believe that individually and taken together these essays raise devastating questions about the justice handed down by the ICTY. With numerous Serbs still serving very long prison sentences on the basis of ICTY convictions that we now know were not underpinned by solid evidence of any kind, we hope that this will again focus attention on the appalling justice dispensed by this illegal court.
