“Making a link between the idea of justice and the idea of peace and security?”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

EDWARD STOURTON:<\/p>\n

“It’s interesting, you said, that the court was – the\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>courts were established under chapter 7 of the United Nations Charter\u00a0<\/span>which is really about peace and security not about justice. \u00a0 \u00a0W<\/span>as that sort of creative law making – making a link between the idea\u00a0<\/span>of justice and the idea of peace and security that was established at\u00a0<\/span>the time that the Yugoslavia and Rwanda courts were set up?”<\/p>\n

RICHARD GOLDSTONE:<\/p>\n

“It was indeed and for that reason it came as a huge surprise\u00a0<\/span>to international humanitarian lawyers that a first ever international\u00a0<\/span>criminal court would come from the Security Council and not from a\u00a0<\/span>treaty.”<\/span><\/p>\n
